A rhythmic thump or a drum that will not turn points to the drive side of the ELFE7738AA, not the heater.
The ELFE7738AA is a 700 Series electric dryer from Electrolux, listed as a current model. The drum rides on supports and is turned by a motor through a belt, so most noise and no-turn complaints come back to that drive path.
A thump once per drum revolution often means a worn support or a flat spot where the drum has rested against it. A squeal while it spins suggests a dry bearing or idler. A grinding sound that stops when the motor stops points to the roller or glide. A silent drum with a humming motor is a different story: that suggests the belt has slipped or the motor is not driving. Our post dryer rhythmic thump helps you describe it.
Drum motor faults are listed as Electrolux dryer E51 for a motor relay error, Electrolux dryer E52 for start sensing or motor stopped or not starting, Electrolux dryer E53 for the centrifugal switch and Electrolux dryer E54 for motor sensing. Interface trouble is separate, such as Electrolux dryer E91 for communication with the main board.
Do not run a dryer that grinds, because a failing support can cut into the drum edge and make the repair larger. Do not open the cabinet to check the belt with power connected. If you see smoke, turn off the breaker immediately.
Open the door and spin the drum by hand with the dryer unplugged or the breaker off; note whether it turns freely or catches. Look for a sock or a button that slipped past the lint screen into the front seal. Make sure the dryer sits level and does not touch the wall or the washer beside it.
Share the ELFE7738AA label, normally inside the door frame, and a short description or phone recording of the noise. We diagnose before repair, write the estimate and wait for your approval. For more, see Electrolux dryer repair and Electrolux dryers.
A dryer on a tilted or soft floor gets a quirky thump that comes from the cabinet, not the drum. In older San Francisco buildings, a closet floor that flexes can amplify any slight imbalance. If the noise changes when you press down on one corner of the cabinet, say so when you book.
Not always. A lump of laundry, a flat spot or a loose component can also cause it. The diagnosis separates them.
Your own label is what we match parts against, so read the exact model number from it.
That can be the belt, the motor circuit or the door signal. A technician checks them in order.
Left alone, some noises do. Stop using the dryer if it grinds.
